Sanwo-Olu Orders Civil Servants Not to Resume Work Until Tuesday

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed all civil servants in the state to stay away from work on Monday as part of measures to ensure a gradual easing of the COVID-19 lockdown in Lagos.

The directive was announced on Sunday following the Federal Government’s decision to relax the five-week lockdown imposed on Lagos, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory. According to the governor, the move was aimed at preventing overcrowding in offices, public places, and on major roads across the state.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the earlier directive exempting workers on Grade Levels 1 to 12 from resuming work had now been extended to all civil servants, regardless of rank. He added that only emergency workers and officials on essential duties would be permitted to work on Monday.

The governor further stated that government offices would partially reopen on Tuesday, with only officers on Grade Level 15 and above expected to resume. Other workers needed for essential operations would be informed by their respective ministries and agencies.

Sanwo-Olu also reminded residents that a statewide curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. would take effect from Monday, restricting movement except for those involved in essential services such as food supply, petroleum distribution, agro-products, and relief operations.

He emphasized that the gradual easing of the lockdown should not be interpreted as the end of the coronavirus pandemic, urging residents to continue observing safety measures including social distancing, regular handwashing, and the use of face masks in public places.
