HEALTH ALERT

3/23/2020

Nigeria has recorded its first death from COVID-19, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The deceased was a 67-year-old man who recently returned to the country after receiving medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

The NCDC disclosed that the patient had underlying health conditions, including multiple myeloma and diabetes, and was undergoing chemotherapy before his death.

Health authorities said efforts to trace and monitor contacts linked to the case were ongoing as part of measures to contain the spread of the virus.

The agency urged Nigerians to continue observing preventive guidelines and support ongoing efforts to combat the pandemic.
