The Lagos State Government has urged residents to strictly observe COVID-19 safety measures amid growing concerns over a possible second wave of infections.
Speaking on the increasing global resurgence of the virus, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, noted that many countries and cities are already experiencing second and third waves of the pandemic, leading to a sharp rise in confirmed cases and fatalities.
Professor Abayomi warned that the continuous disregard for established safety guidelines by some citizens could expose Lagos to another surge in infections.
According to him, the persistent neglect of preventive measures poses a serious threat to public health and could trigger a second wave in the state if urgent precautions are not taken.
He therefore advised residents to avoid social gatherings and unnecessary travel within and outside the country unless absolutely essential.
The commissioner also stressed the importance of complying with all safety protocols, including the proper use of face masks, physical distancing, and regular hand hygiene.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to protecting residents and called on everyone to play their part in preventing the spread of the virus by adhering to public health guidelines.
