ABOUT US

Equitable. Accessible. Healthcare for all Nigerians.

We work at the intersection of communities and systems, bringing healthcare closer to those who need it most, while driving the policy reforms that make lasting health equity and access possible across Nigeria.

Millions of Nigerians can't access basic care.

We are changing that.. Through community action and policy reforms, Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria works to make health equity real across underserved communities in Nigeria.

Advocate With Us

You do not need to be a policy expert to advocate for health equity. You need a conviction that Nigeria's health system must do better, and the willingness to say so where it counts.

Our approach is deliberate, evidence-driven and community-led. We do not parachute in with solutions. We listen, build relationships, generate evidence and act, at both the community level and the systems level simultaneously.

Listen & Map

We work in communities, listening to their health challenges, mapping the gaps in services and understanding the social, economic and geographic barriers people face in accessing healthcare.

👂

Build & Train

We invest in people, training community health navigators, strengthening local health groups and building the internal capacity communities need to lead their own health solutions.

Deliver & Advocate

We act on two fronts simultaneously, delivering direct programs in communities while taking the evidence and community voices to the policy table to push for structural change.

Measure & Improve

We track what works and what does not. Our operational research and M&E framework ensures every program improves over time and contributes to Nigeria's public health knowledge base.

New Report: Mapping Medical Deserts in Rural Northern Nigeria

CHIN releases findings from its 2023 health facility mapping study, documenting critical gaps

~40%

No functional health facility nearby

Four in ten Nigerians live too far from a primary health center to access regular care a geographic barrier that kills.

Japa

Health workers leaving every year

Thousands of doctors and nurses are emigrating annually, deepening the shortage in the rural communities that need them most.

~<5%

Of the national budget goes to health

Nigeria committed to 15% in Abuja in 2001. More than two decades later, the promise remains largely unkept.

~70%+

Pay out of pocket for healthcare

Nigeria's insurance gap pushes families into poverty every time illness strikes, deterring millions from seeking care at all.

Nigeria's health system is failing its people.

Millions of Nigerians live too far from a functioning clinic. Millions more cannot afford the care that exists. And even those who can find a facility are often met with understaffed wards, broken equipment and a system stretched far beyond its limits. These are not statistics. These are daily realities for real communities.
