Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria (CHIN) has announced the expansion of its flagship Community Health Navigator Program to Ogun, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States, marking another significant milestone in the organization's commitment to strengthening community-based healthcare delivery across Nigeria.

With the latest expansion, the program now operates in 6 states, extending its reach to more underserved communities and equipping local volunteers and health advocates with the skills needed to bridge the gap between citizens and essential healthcare services.

The Community Health Navigator Program is designed to train community members to serve as trusted health navigators who educate residents on disease prevention, promote healthy lifestyles, facilitate referrals to healthcare facilities, and improve access to primary healthcare services. By working within their own communities, navigators help address barriers such as limited health awareness, misinformation, and delayed access to care.

According to CHIN, the expansion reflects the organization's continued investment in building resilient community health systems that support Nigeria's journey toward universal health coverage. The newly added states were selected based on identified healthcare needs and the opportunity to strengthen grassroots engagement in health promotion.

The inclusion of Ogun, Delta, and Akwa Ibom is expected to increase the program's impact by empowering more community leaders, youth volunteers, and local stakeholders to become advocates for better health outcomes. Participants will receive structured training covering health education, community mobilization, referral systems, data collection, and effective communication.

The initiative also aims to foster stronger collaboration between communities, primary healthcare facilities, civil society organizations, and government institutions to improve health-seeking behavior and encourage early access to preventive and essential health services.

As Nigeria continues to prioritize community-based healthcare approaches, programs that strengthen the capacity of local health volunteers are increasingly recognized as vital to improving maternal and child health, expanding preventive care, and enhancing disease surveillance in underserved areas.

Speaking on the expansion, CHIN reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of location, has access to reliable health information and quality healthcare services through empowered community networks.

With operations now spanning 12 states, Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria continues to demonstrate its dedication to creating healthier communities by investing in local capacity, promoting health literacy, and strengthening the connection between citizens and the healthcare system.
